HP to possibly cut up to 30,000 jobs in restructuring plan

According to several reports across the interwebs, HP could be cutting as many as 30,000 jobs in a new restructuring plan starting as early as May 23rd. On that day, according to several sources, CEO Meg Whitman will announce a company-wide restructuring plan that will include the cuts of approximately 10 to 20 percent of the current  workforce of 320,000 employees. The numbers all vary from source to source but usually when there is this much grumbling in the tech world it is almost a guarantee that something is going to go down.

Before you all go pointing your fingers at Meg keep in mind when she took the helm at HP she was handed a company that was on a downward spiral the like of which was almost unrivaled in the tech industry. The now infamous former CEO Léo Apotheker who had , , attempted to , and pretty much wanted to change the focus of the company altogether. Shortly after all of these decisions made by good ol' Léo, shareholders witnessed in a single day. Needless to say Meg Whitman had her work cut out for her when she took over as CEO of HP. So we are sure that if she does in fact make the decision to cut all these jobs it will be for an awfully good reason.

This unfortunately should feel all too familiar to the webOS community as we've seen our fair share of . Fortunately webOS or HP's Personal Systems Group have not been directly mentioned in any of the sources. However, with a cut this large one can almost bet on the proverbial "axe" reaching across the entirety of HP. Heck even the poor guy who pushes the mail cart around the offices should be scared at this point! All we can say is that we sincerely hope that webOS doesn't take any hits from this as there really isn't much left to cut. Stay tuned and we will keep you informed of any news that may come out of all of this.

Update: Enda McGrath has that this will not be affecting webOS. Bullet dodged!

Bright 6,000 ANSI Lumens Laser Projectors Deliver 4K UHD and WUXGA Images,
Smart Connection and More Convenient Features for Business

SEOUL, Apr. 16, 2021 — LG Electronics (LG) has added two new outstanding offerings to its ProBeam lineup of business projectors. The new models – BU60PST and BF60PST – offer a number of enhancements and features that bring greater performance to the office or school. With great image quality and a plethora of useful features, these latest LG ProBeam models can help users better deliver important information and key messages in almost any setting, from the boardroom to the classroom.
LG’s premium projectors are ideal for use in diverse setting, including corporate, retail, hospitality or education. Introduced last year, LG’s ProBeam brand of projectors are designed to deliver premium-level projection solutions for professional environments. Both new projectors provide improved brightness and high resolution for crisp, clear images to everyone in the room. Model BU60PST delivers a 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) image at a maximum of 300 inches (measured diagonally), approximately four times the clarity of WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), the resolution offered by many business projectors currently on the market.
Peak brightness of 6,000 ANSI lumens and contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 translates to images that can be seen just as easily in daylight conditions as in a darkened environment.* The laser light source in both ProBeam models is rated for 20,000 hours, approximately four times longer than projectors with conventional lamps. With support for HDR10, both BU60PST and BF60PST can reproduce stunning HDR content as it was meant to be seen, with exceptionally deep blacks and rich, dynamic, colors.
Like their predecessors (models BU50NST and BF50NST), LG’s latest ProBeam solutions are equipped with features that are perfect for business meetings and conferences. Users can connect either of the new projectors directly to a company or conference facility network via wired or wireless connection, eliminating the need for a laptop. Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel files can be opened directly from a USB device thanks to the built-in Office viewer. Screen sharing and screen mirroring make it especially easy to project content from devices running the Windows or Android operating system, giving users more options for displaying their presentations.
“As offices and schools reopen, we expect there will be a growing demand for upgraded presentation tools after the Zoom era,” said Jang Ik-hwan, senior vice president and head of the IT business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “Designed specifically for business and education environments, LG ProBeam projectors are adaptable solutions that can facilitate better communication and enhance productivity.”
LG’s new 2021 ProBeam models will be available starting in the second quarter in North America, followed by key markets in Europe and Asia.

Connecting my headset to my TV is such a hassle, way too many steps. Every time I have to:
open settings scroll to audio scroll to bluetooth pick select a device, which opens another window navigate to my headset (multiple uses of arrow keys) select my headset hit back button multiple times to get out of window This very bad UX.
How it should work: At step 3 once Bluetooth is selected the TV should connect to the last connected Bluetooth device. Done.

The YouTube Originals documentary received its offline debut this week on LG’s massive high definition digital billboard in New York’s iconic Times Square. The feature-length documentary, which premiered on YouTube over the weekend, is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald and executive produced by the prolific Ridley Scott.

Life In A Day 2020 debuted on YouTube on February 6, when it also became available on the YouTube app on smart TVs including LG’s award-winning LG OLED TVs. The feature-length documentary is a collaboration between YouTube and LG Electronics and is composed entirely of selected contributions from people around the world who filmed their day on July 25, 2020.

Ten years after the original Life In A Day, YouTube and the filmmakers asked people all over the world to record their lives to tell the story of a single day on Earth. The filmmakers received more than 300,000 submissions, nearly four times the number of submissions to the previous film, which includes thousands of hours of footage from 192 different countries, in more than 65 languages.

Directed by Academy Award-winning director Kevin MacDonald (The Mauritanian, One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland), and executive produced by Ridley Scott (The Martian, Gladiator) and Kai Hsiung (Lords of Chaos), Life In A Day 2020 aims to showcase just how extraordinary life can be on an ordinary day.

“We are proud to collaborate with YouTube to feature this incredible and moving documentary live in Times Square on our LG digital billboard,’ said Peggy Ang, head of marketing at LG USA. “We hope visitors to Times Square will take a moment in their own daily life on February 8 to watch a part of Life In A Day and then enjoy its full impact at home with their families on an LG OLED TV.”
