In the connected era, it could be said that we are living in the “age of relationships” in which creating, nurturing and leveraging relationships with our acquaintances, followers, customers, etc. is the thing that separates success from failure. While this might not be a unanimous belief, one thing everyone can agree on is that good communication isn’t something that happens naturally, it must be nurtured and honed.

For companies and brands, how they communicate their messages is just as important as what they communicate. So it was especially gratifying to learn that LG’s team in Australia was recognized with one of Asia’s most prestigious industry communications awards for its

More than 500 volunteer organizations and individuals have been celebrated as part of the LG Local Legends in the past 12 months. The program was launched at a time when charities and community service organizations were in critical need of support, with many finding it difficult to secure resources, manpower and critical funding. LG Local Legends helps elevate the profile of these community groups around the country through media, social media and online channels.

More than 1,200 entries from across the Asia Pacific region were received and judged by an expert panel of nearly 100 senior industry professionals.

“The LG Local Legends program shows that even in these difficult times individuals and groups can rise above these hardships to selflessly make the lives of others better,” said Louise Annetts, corporate marketing manager at LG Electronics Australia. “It has been a pleasure to help recognize the incredible efforts of those in our communities, as well as receive broader recognition of the program at this year’s SABRE Awards. We are looking forward to celebrating more deserving Australians in 2021.”

Thanks to several breakthrough innovations of recent decades, several home appliances can work in unison via NFC Tag, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to form the integrated home solutions that put the ‘smart’ in smart home. With technology advancing so rapidly, the role of the smart home has evolved from simply providing basic functions to now offering subscription services and integrated care services that elevate people’s wellbeing.

Since debuting in 2017, LG’s ThinQ smart home solution has been helping people live more accessible, more comfortable everyday lives in multiple ways. With the advanced ThinQ platform controlling the home, consumers can set a routine that automates multiple appliances at once while being able to monitor them in real time remotely. The comprehensive home assistant even comes with ThinQ Care, which identifies potential issues, and the ability to purchase supplies or replacements on the ThinQ store with ease.1
Let’s explore how LG ThinQ is bringing next-level convenience and smarter control to thousands, if not millions, of homes across the world.

Preparing meals has never been simpler
When arriving home exhausted, cooking may be the last thing on your mind. With ThinQ Recipe guiding you every step of the way, creating tasty, healthy dishes is less of a chore and more of a hobby. To kick the cooking process off, ThinQ uses your preferences and dietary needs to recommend both trendy online recipes and LG Original Series recipes – prepared and tested by LG food scientists and chefs to unlock LG oven’s full potential. But before cooking your selected recipe can start, do you have all the required ingredients? In collaboration with Amazon Fresh, Walmart, Walmart, Kroger, Target and Instacart, you can now make sure you’re never missing an item by ordering supplies from your favorite grocery store via the app.2 So, once you’re ready to cook, open up a video guide and follow the instructions. Then put your creation in the LG InstaViewTM Oven, which is ready to go thanks to LG ThinQ having already sent over the temperature and cooking time that will cook it to perfection. The only thing left to do after the food has been cooked and served is to make sure the room temperature is perfect for you by controlling the LG DUALCOOL air conditioner via the app. Now you can enjoy your perfectly home-cooked meal to the fullest.

Providing the smart home solutions everyone can use
To make sure everyone can experience a convenient, connected smart home, LG ThinQ has incorporated useful voice guides to provide better accessibility. Through voice recognition technology, elderly people or those unfamiliar with smartphone can directly speak to your Alexa, Google Assistant devices or directly to LG ThinQ app to give instant verbal feedback on device-related problems.

LG ThinQ-powered convenience is now available with most LG devices, including its well-known refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners as well as its Air Water Heat Pump (AWHP), WashTower, ceiling fans and more. And since these appliances become more compatible with Google Assistant now in almost a hundred countries and Amazon Alexa in sixty-four, more people can get accurate information on their appliances in a matter of seconds.3

Joining Matter for a more integrated platform
What’s more, LG recently joined the Board of Directors of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), the leading global organization for developing, evolving and promoting universal open standards for the Internet of Things (IoT). LG will lead the way in developing smart home ecosystems by actively participating in the development and standardization of Matter, the Alliance’s open-source IoT protocol for connecting smart home devices.

With LG ThinQ, every person, disability or no disability, can experience the smart homes that make daily life simpler and easier through innovative functions and state-of-the-art appliances.

Between bushfires, floods, a global pandemic and a worsening cost of living crisis, Australian communities have endured so much over the past few years. But having to overcome such unprecedented challenges has made Aussies more resilient and more appreciative of what they may have taken for granted. That is, when we band together for the common good, we can withstand every challenge life throws at us.

To uphold this community spirit, LG Australia partnered with
link hidden, please login to view last December to support their incredible work in helping families rediscover the good in life, even in the toughest of times. With LG donating more than AUD 260,000 in home appliances, entertainment products and air-conditioning systems, RMHC has been able to refurbish its houses across Australia, which provide a home-away-from-home for more than 10,000 families traveling long distances for the treatment of their seriously ill or injured children.
In March, LG Australia launched the #LGGoldenHearts campaign to celebrate RMHC’s many kind-hearted volunteers. Following National Volunteer Week, which runs from May 16 to 22, the #LGGoldenHearts campaign recognized the selfless contributions of 11 RMHC volunteers who dedicate their precious time to the charity and the families by rewarding them with a LG prize package.
With more than 120 volunteers nominated, this initiative successfully put the spotlight on some of the charity’s unsung heroes and the positive impact they leave on families facing unimaginable challenges. Every single nominee had their own unique and inspiring story – like stepping in to fill last-minute shifts even during Christmas and becoming a volunteer to repay the kindness they received from RMHC when their family needed a helping hand.

LG Australia also worked with Sydney Dance Company to donate eight-week memberships to online dance classes in line with RMHC’s – an inclusive 7-day challenge held every May to support sick children and their families and bring together a community of people who want to make a difference. The membership was donated to each RMHC Chapter nationally, which allowed hundreds of people staying at RMHC locations to enjoy fun and entertaining moments together.

The #LGGoldenHearts initiative is part of the broader CSR program held by LG Australia, which includes campaigns like – now in its third year of calling on Australians across the country to nominate their community’s heroes. The campaign demonstrated LG Australia’s commitment to fostering meaningful relationships with like-minded, purpose-driven organizations while encouraging Australians to recognize the good in everything around us.

Although today’s women have made progress in gaining more freedoms and rights, there is still much room for improvement. In much of the developed world, women can work outside the home, vote in elections, decide if they want to have a family, even become president if they so choose. But the customs and standards of the 18th century prevented women from detaching themselves from the family and domestic functions that were imposed on them and from following their true dreams.

With Maria Anna Mozart, the older sister of the musician and composer Wolfgang Amadeus, it was no different. Since childhood, “Marianne” easily handled musical instruments and performed at concerts with her brother, where she gained prominence and was an inspiration for many. But as she grew older Maria Anna had to put her career aside to build a family, causing her great talent to be forgotten over time.

Aiming to amplify visibility around this important story of classical music, LG Electronics in Brazil brought Marianne’s work to the 21st century through technology. With access to 66 letters and 90 pages of the musician’s diary, the contents of her diary were transformed into musical notes, making it possible to hear what Anna wanted to express but was not able at that time.

A German interpreter was invited to record the reading of Marianne’s letters and diary. All texts found written in German were carefully analyzed so that the pronunciation tone became the song entitled Das Königreich Rücken, the imaginary kingdom between Marianne and Mozart.

The communication campaign was conducted by the agency Almap BBDO. The concept behind it was to honor the memory of Marianne and many other talent women who have been forgotten over time. It was a way for LG to celebrate the power of women on this International Women’s Day. Because of its originality, the campaign saw significant mentions in various media outlets covering marketing, lifestyle and technology.
A video of the musical composition is available on LG Brazil’s social network channels and on

Today saw yet another release along the
link hidden, please login to view , with Novacom and Novacomd finding their way onto GitHub. The two pieces comprise a generic communication toolset used to communicate between a host (your computer) and embedded device (your webOS device) over USB. It's what allows the webOS SDK and programs like WebOS Quick Install to access the device over a USB connection without having to put the device into USB Mode. Plus there's the fact that USB mode doesn't allow access to the file system. Novacom has been distributed as part of the webOS SDK and webOS Doctors since what seems like the beginning of time, and was released as a separate downloadable executable a while back as well. The separate release, while not open source, enabled WebOS Quick Install to get by without downloading the entire webOS Doctor just to be able to extract Novacom to install a single app or patch.
There are two parts to the release, Novacom and Novacomd. The latter is the service that runs on both the host and the target device, while Novacom is the command line user interface that provides a human-accessible way to access that service. With both now out in open source, the webOS developer community (and the developer community at large) is free to enhance, fix, and repurpose the two as they see fit.
The release of Novacom nearly closes out the , with just LevelDB and MojoDB/DB8 left for the month. Major releases for March have included the and the , both of which will go a long way towards opening up Open webOS to installation on a wide range of devices. There's still a lot to go on the roadmap, but despite what feels like near , Open webOS is still making progress.
Update: HP has also released to open source the . It's aparently "a work in progress and not currently buildable," though that is expected to soon change. DB8 first step in incorporating LevelDB databases into Open webOS.
