Total Power On Time

Recommended Posts

I want to ask that what is the ideal total power on time for a new lg tv. I bought one and it already shows 1048 hours. Is this possible for a new tv? Anyone have any idea?

Hi Rohit,

I was not even aware this was a feature, where did you find it and what is the model of your television?

I recently bought a "new" OLED65C8 and it indicated a "Total Power On Time" of 3999 hours.   I contacted LG Support via chat for an explanation and they abruptly terminated the chat, without explanation,  when I asked how accurate this metric was and what tolerances it has.

I suppose this metric could be an artifact from when the OS was imaged onto the new TV.  However, in the worst case, a shady retailer could be selling used/refurbished product as new.  But, if I'm not mistaken, this metric can be reset via the service panel.  If so, you'd think the shady individual would also reset the hours to zero.

I'll post again if I find any thing that is significant.

FWIW, after a subsequent contact with LG Customer Service,  providing a serial number and asking for any available history related to this serial, I was able to learn the following.

My TV was identified as a store demo assigned to one of the larger retail  chains.

I guess the take away from all of this is:

1. The "Total Power On Time" is a very useful metric to investigate

2. Some retailers do shady things

First thing I did was check this when we bought our 86UH9500 new back in 2017 - it was sold as open box which was really more like crappy, taped up box but never used.  Out of the box, it was obvious the set had never been used, all packing and wrap was in place, still had that new TV smell.

I had trouble with the app you can use to check the up time in the service menu but also found it in the General/About this TV menu and it had 1 -2 hours if memory serves, if that.  Subsequent registration with LG confirmed the set was new, never registered etc.

Interesting note: with an app or a service remote, you can actually reset the time.  I found this out by accident when I reset the TV after restoring changes a technician had made that made the TV unwatchable.

      Hi All,
Has anyone had a recent update of the OS on their TV to 4.7.050204 (goldilocks2-gulaga) ?
The reason I ask is that the IPTV channels on my TV seem to have borked these channels as I now get "Invalid Service"
floating across the screen. I'm pretty sure these channels worked before the update.
I'm referring to channels such as Now 90's, Planect Knowledge, The Sports Channel Network etc. So these are NOT APPS but
TV Channels showing up on the guide and still show the programme details.

This TV is only a week old, and I think I'm going to be bounced between the retailer and LG as it seems to be a software issue.
Does anyone have similar experiences and have you resolved the issue ?
      TIA

Question: Why does LG's website say I should check this forum to see if 3rd Party Bluetooth Headsets with work completely and correctly with LG sound sync and WebOS, when LG has not or will not publish a list of which 3rd Party Bluetooth Headsets are tested as compatible with specific LG TV models?
We recently purchased an LG 55UM7300PUA (2019) TV and have a question about which 3rd Party Bluetooth Headsets that are compatible with LG sound sync and WebOS...  My wife wants to listen to our 55UM7300PUA TV through a set of Bluetooth Headphones while the TV Internal Speakers are turned off...
It seems that LG's USA website needs to be updated because LG's search results about our 55UM7300PUA model seem incomplete. The LG Tech Support website does not list the 55UM7300PUA as a TV nor Smart TV product and no 55UM7300PUA or 55UM73 manual is listed in search results.   I finally found the Owners Manual for our 55UM7300PUA through a Google search, but this PDF Owners Manual I downloaded does not say if our 55UM7300PUA supports LG sound sync or which manufacturer/models of Bluetooth Headsets .
I am disappointed by a lack of technical support from LG in past forum discussions regarding which 3rd Party Bluetooth Headsets with work completely and correctly with LG sound sync and WebOS.  LG Technical Support is forcing customers like me to buy Bluetooth Headsets at our expense, they ask us to do their testing with a lack of specific 55UM7300PUA documentation, and they direct us to "refer to headset model names in user guide" that are not simply listed.
Does our 55UM7300PUA support the use of Bluetooth Headphones and is "LG sound sync" required for use with Bluetooth Headphones?  Why should we have to test 3rd party Headsets at our expense when LG Tech Support should specifiy which OEM and 3rd party Headsets work with which LG TV models?
