Sorry to hear that but it doesn't surprise me at all.  The memory is probably on the board, it cannot be customized.

I agree LG has been a little cheap on the memory, it chokes on it's own basic functionality.

I close apps running in the background on mine, not sure if it's a placebo or not, but I haven't seen that message in a while.

Another option is to get a Roku box or similar and use that for streaming

LG wanted me to send the TV back again to have the screen replaced

I asked if I sent it would it have the original fault repair at the same time. Was then told it was user error and the TV should never have been repaired in the first instance.

At this point I rang up the shop where I bought the TV and explained it was not fit for purpose.

The shop agreed and asked if I wanted a replacement or refund.

I have now got a Samsung TV and have had no issues with any of the apps

Even though I told LG I wasn't sending it back for repair they still sent DPD courier to collect it

Would I buy another LG product?  NO

U.K .based?  I think the UK has more consumer protections, at least from the evidence in this forum and similar.

How long had you owned it ?

We had the same issue.  Unplug your tv and press the on/off button on the tv, hold it in for 10 seconds while the tv is unplugged.  Then wait 20 seconds more and plug the tv back in and turn it back on.  This solved the problem for us.

WOW I followed your instructions and now it's

"Smooth Sailing"

Thank you very much for your help. You are the 1st person I have encountered who gave advice that actually cured my Problem 👍 👌😊

LG "smart" tv not too smart! Ive had this tv a while and the browser is loosing more and more sites.  If I had known they could not be updated I would not have wasted my cash. The attitude of LG regarding the lack of browser updates is deplorable. NO MORE  LG GOODS FOR ME!.........Waist of money!

My advice is unplug it and take it back, your problems are just beginning. And why should you buy a Chrome Cast or set top smart box when your new LG "smart"  tv should do as its advertised to do.?

Samsung TV's also offer a limited browser.  I don't think any TV (as far as I know) allows you to install a third party browser

I had the same problem when using the Guide.  The following tip from another forum appears to resolve the problem: Turn off TV and unplug from the mains.  Press and hold the power button on the TV for a good 10 seconds.  Wait a further 30 seconds and then plug TV back in and turn on.  Worked well for me and did not loose any personal settings unlike a full reset.

I have the same problem when using the Guide.  Got the following tip from another forum which solved the problem: Switch off TV and unplug from the mains.  Press and hold the Power button on the TV for a good 10 seconds.  Wait a further 30 seconds and then plug TV back in and turn on.  No personal setting lost unlike a reset and all apps also appear to be opening quicker.  I think it is likely that one may need to do this after manufacturer software updates which clog up the memory.

My partial solution to running out of memory over and over:

Go to Settings / General and make sure "Quick Start+" is NOT enabled.

If you run into this "restarting app to free up memory" problem there is no need to unplug from power or hold power button, just switch it off and on again using the red button on the remote.

With "Quick Start+" disabled you will need to wait 5 seconds or so after it comes back on before it becomes responsive to the remote, but you will find there is some more memory available and the problem will almost always not happen again for a while.

TRY INSERTING USB DRIVE

Hi..used to have the same problem & tried the "20 second on/off button steps" but the problem keep coming back. Yesterday, I've noticed that the problem has gone for a quit some times (maybe about 1-2 months).

Then I've realize that there was a usb drive (pendrive) inserted in the usb slot at the back of the tv..maybe it has been there for about 1-2 months back (I've remembered the last time I use the usb slot to watch a movie). The "restarting problem" have gone for good this time.

Maybe you guys can try this method..inserting usb drive (any usb drive)16235636794317814032248109380839.thumb.jpg.0cd906b9d2dca448eb8d57a21ecdfeb6.jpg in the usb slot behind the tv. It works well for me. Cheers...

To resolve the issue, unplug the TV then press the on/off button for 10 seconds.  Wait a further 20 seconds then plug the TV back in and turn it back on. Apps should now run without the error.

Edit: The on/off button on my LG TV is directly under the standby light on the bottom of the TV.

Regards,
Willjoe

I am facing this problem since 2 weeks on my 2017 bought LG 49UF850V. It was working all fine for the last 5 years. Not even a single point in time "app restart to free memory" error was raised.

The surprising thing is, when I looked at host diagnostics, I found DRAM to be 0
I haven't checked this before the problem started so I do not know the initial value. But the spec says it has 2.5GB of RAM. Why is it showing 0 ?

image.thumb.jpeg.a5d63374701052fd7906b1ea0a3cedcf.jpeg

The plug pull, 10 sec power button, 20s wait and then power on did not change anything in my case.

      Hi everyone,
I wish LG would consider updating their Codecs list or at least give us a way of installing this codecs in our TV manually. i know my TV is capable of playing a lot of stuff but i'm always stuck with "not supported" for most of the media i have.
One of the most wished stuff i'd love to see is
Added support for H.264 10bit (still very popular and used a lot)
as well as Opus codecs (its a Free codec and its getting a lot use recently especially with H.265 MKV videos)
Like i said, please add this codecs and more or at least give us a way of doing it ourselves. i know there might be legal issues and some codecs are payed, so just let us install it ourselves instead.
      Thanks.
