LG web os TV and LG soundbar - sound drop/ Cutoff / issue wireless

Matan Faragi

Question

Hi,

I'm not sure its the right place but at any case i will describe my issue here and maybe you will be able to help:

Recently I bought a a TV and a sound bar, and i have some issue from the moment i get the TV.

TV model - LG 55LB679Y with latest firmware version i have at my country (Israel) - 04.30.16
SoundBar - LG NB4540

the TV connected to sound bar by "wireless simplink" feature 'LG TV' and TV connected to My Wireless router.

every 5 - 15 minutes, i have sound drops / Cutoff / stooped / Interruption, seem like the TV loose connection to sound-bar for few seconds or something similar, it's happen from any AV source im using HDMI, USB...

and the local re-seller replace the sound-bar to a new one (same modal off course) and i didn't help.
i have try to troubleshot the problem in the last few weeks - but didn't succeed to solve it, and also the support / costumer service didn't have solution for this.

some steps i take when troubleshot this issue:
* different wireless configuration on router -  different channels, SSID, Security - issue still persist.

* another wireless router - issue still persist.

* working with optical cable to sound bar - just for testing - working ok, but i need the wireless feature working this the reason i bought sound bar and TV from the same manufacturer.
* disconnect the TV from wireless network - looks like it's working ok, but didn't had chance to test it for long time.

from my point of view looks like it's issue with wireless device on TV not able to to work in parallel with soundbar and wireless network for some reason, It could be caused bysoftware issue on WebOS or Hardware issue with this TV model.

I really hope you be able to help me or throw some light on this case.

Kind regards,
Matan

I too am having same issues with intermittent dropping off of the sound volume.  I am using a new LG OLED 55B6V TV with Orbitsound A70 soundbar.   Both (top of range?) items newly purchased.  Connecting using recommended optical cable.   The sound seems to drops randomly for a few seconds and then recovers to the correct volume level.   Orbitsound support tell me the issue is with the LG TV?  Not sure where the issue is but it would appreciate LG helping to resolve with the Soundbar suppliers.

I don't think its an issues specific to the TV since I am using a Sony TV with LG soundbar. Have you tried connecting the HDMI to HDMI for sound? Maybe its just an optical cable issue with LG devices?

Interestingly enough I used to have this issue a lot, but can't recall it happening for several months now. I'm using the lg650lb with the N3540 sound bar. Only two things I can think of thane have changed, bought a couple of powerline adaptors so my to is now connected via Ethernet rather than wifi, and also there have been several updates to the to since I last recall it happening.

For people it is still happening to, what happens if you turn off wifi on your television (regardless of how it's connected to the sound bar)?

Tried it tonight and it did not work.

Thanks.  But the Soundbar I am using (Orbitsound A70) does not have HDMI connection.   Optical, Blue tooth or Aux (3.5mm jack) are the options

I've had nothing but trouble with my LG TV and soundbar since I purchased them. The soundbar cut out regularly when connected with an optical cable. Now I have connected it with Bluetooth and it is still cutting out, or the soundbar just switches itself off randomly.

I have also had problems with popups appearing on the TV for HDM12 and 13 inputs. All of these problems are well documented on various forums but I have been unable to find a solution for any of them.

Hi there, I had same issue with occasional connectivity loss between my OLED65B6P and LAS465B bar. Every few minutes, intermittently I'd lose sound for a second, or two. I replaced that thin cheapie optical cable that came with sound bar and used my old, fat Belkin optical cable. Over two hours of TV watching, not a single drop out.

I think that thin cable is not insulated well, or maybe has low optical quality fiber in it, same as fishing line:)

Anyways, hope this helps.

This is great. Please let me know if it continues to work.

Can't run hdmi audio unless tv supports ARC. At least that's how I understand it.

I have a Samsung smart tv and the LG sound bar, i have it connected with the optical cable. This sound dropping happens no matter what i am watching and it is annoying. I hope someone finds an answer soon. Please let me know if you do. I will keep reading.

I have 55B6V and I'm having the same sound issues via optical out. Recently bought new active speakers and switched to optical and now the audio cuts out a couple of seconds every hour. Very annoying. I tried all settings and switching cables, nothing worked. I have the same problem no matter what source (PS4, Xbox, streaming or TiVO) I use. Getting desperate now, because I tried contacting LG customer service and they just told me to try different settings on the TV. Well, none of them worked and I notice I'm not the only one with this problem. Does anyone have a suggestion?

EDIT: Note that I don't have a soundbar but I have the exact same problem described in this thread /EDIT

The Soundbar I was using was from Orbitsound (Orbitsound A70).   Ultimately Orbitsound took responsibility (as LG seems to be not interested in finding a solution) and they applied an update for the Soundbar that looks to have mostly resolved the issue I encountered.   I do think that Orbitsound created an alternative fix to an issue that originated from LG.   To me it is disappointing that LG appear to have not actively sought to find a solution to this issue that is affecting a lot of customers.

That's great from Orbitsound, I really wish LG would try to do the same and find a solution. I'm at my wits end here. I don't want to sell my tv just because this annoying problem but so far no one has come up with a solution. I spent four hours googling this issue and it seems a lot of  customers are affected irregardless what receivers, soundbars or speakers they're using  - the thing they all have in common is using the optical output from a LG TV. Frustrating to say the least.

I had this problem ,the sound fades then returns to correct volume ,Contact your service provider ask them to check your router for faults, they will and as was in my case reset the router which solved the problem .

Not sure why that worked as optical digital cables do not get lossey.    but hey it's something to try.

I had the drop out issue too lately and think i have fixed it . My TV is the LG 55 oled with the LG sound bar,   If the problem seem to happen only with a cable signal that is a strong indication the problem is with the cable box not the TV or sound bar.  My cable box is the newer 1TB  Technicolor unit with Spectrum.   Anyway I had it replaced recently and that is when the drop outs became very noticeable. I went into the sound settings and started checking  those. I found that Dolby Sound was for some reason set as off.  I turned that to on and the drop outs ceased so it seems the sound bar wants a dolby signal to be stable.    That's my experience.

If that worked for you great.  I think the same optical glass is used in all of them but it is glass and if bent too sharply or jammed against something hard it will fracture and lose light conductivity.   I tried a new TOS cable and that did not help for my drop outs.  I thought  I had it fixed with a settings change but the problem came back!     I kept working on it and did find the reason for my dropouts though!!   It was RF interference or a weak signal that killed the Blue Tooth   connection.  I had to move the subwoofer to within three feet of the sound bar with nothing solid between them.  Now the audio is solid with no dropouts.  The same problem can be caused by several things.

Well, All you people having issue with dropping sound and come back after while. It's not issue with Tv, or router or cable or anything else.

It's stupid LG way of soundbar software setup. Even though you are connected to TV with optical or HDMI cable, issue still persist, due to

stupid soundbar wants to connect to internet wifi or LAN time to time. while attempting to connect, it drops sound and after unsuccessful

attempt, came back to normal sound until next attempt. It's no way to disable this and it's so stupid.

MAKW SURE YOUR LG IS CONNECTED TO WIFI/LAN, AND HAVE INTERNET CONNECTION. IT WILL BE HAPPY.

STUPID LG.

After turning on the LG SL6Y Soundbar exactly 30 minutes later, the sound becomes very quiet.  Tried all connection types.  After everything works for 30 minutes and fades.  Dropped settings.  Nothing helps.  Now on an optical cable. HDMI 2.1 did not help either, the same thing via Bluetooth.
One of the masters on the forum says that because of the firmware.

Company Joins Forces With Hyundai Motor Group and YouTube
to Deliver More Entertaining Infotainment Experiences With the New Genesis Models

SEOUL, Nov. 1, 2023 — LG Electronics (LG) has announced that it will apply its in-vehicle infotainment system – featuring webOS for Automotive, the company’s automotive content platform – to Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai Motor Company, Kia corporation, Genesis)’s new Genesis models. On October 31, LG hosted Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai) and YouTube at a ceremony in Los Angeles, U.S., to celebrate the introduction of webOS for Automotive to Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis, and to discuss collaborations to enhance the in-vehicle entertainment experience.
Hyundai’s new Genesis models are equipped with an infotainment system that takes full advantage of webOS for Automotive. Passengers in the front and back seats can now comfortably watch the high-definition content they typically enjoy on their smartphone or TV in compliance with driving and safety regulations. Infotainment displays can stream content with the immersive sound quality Genesis has engineered.
This collaboration is noteworthy as it marks LG’s first unveiling of its automotive content platform. LG introduced webOS for Automotive to extend its unique customer experiences and services to the road. Leveraging the proven popularity and convenience of webOS, which has reached cumulative sales of 200 million in the Smart TV market, the company has developed a new version for vehicles so that drivers and passengers can enjoy a wide array of over-the-top (OTT) services, including YouTube, in an optimized cabin setting.
LG, Hyundai and YouTube worked in close collaboration to bring YouTube’s native TV app to WebOS for Automotive, providing an optimized in-vehicle viewing experience. In addition, the YouTube app uses the newly developed native touch solutions on WebOS for Automotive.
Always at the forefront of innovation in the infotainment market, LG is constantly enhancing driving and chauffeur experiences by drawing on the extensive technology and insight it has accumulated over decades in the TV and home appliance spaces.
With webOS for Automotive, customers can comfortably enjoy the variety of content available on TVs at home within their vehicle. It provides differentiated mobility experiences that bring more value to life on the road by extending their living space to their vehicles.
“Thanks to technological development based on SDV, people can comfortably enjoy various video content in their vehicles,” said Kwon Hae-young, vice president of the Infotainment Development Center at Hyundai Motor Group. “We will continue to expand our collaboration with major global content companies to provide more diverse and valuable in-vehicle experiences to our customers.”
“YouTube provides breadth and depth of audio and video content that is optimized for in-vehicle entertainment. We are proud to be part of this collaboration that’s taking in-vehicle entertainment to the next level,” said Tony Archibong, managing director of Global Product Partnerships at YouTube.
“LG remains committed to introducing the most advanced vehicle solutions, including webOS for Automotive, as we strive to elevate the customer experience for drivers and passengers while also accommodating the diverse demands of car manufacturers,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG Vehicle component Solutions Company.
Based on a rich understanding of customer and their living spaces, LG held a press conference at IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, Germany in September, where LG CEO William Cho shared the company’s perspective and presented its vision for the future mobility industry under the theme of “Taking Life’s Good on the Road.”

      Hello,
I have a UJ701V tv from 2017. I get a random disturbance of the sound and picture and then the tv reboots. I have already removed the back cover and everything looks fine. According the logfile i have to replace the mainboard but i think the problem will stay.

I've seen an older thread on this topic but it doesn't look like anyone found a solution to disabling the screen saver, so I'll try a new one.
On virtually all my LG TV's (I have three OLED's and two LCD), the screen saver interferes with my music app (like Plex, Spotify or Amazon Music). I mainly use Plex for playback of my music which is stored on a central server (NAS) and from the app loaded on a Fire TV stick or cube. After about 20-30 minutes, the album art and other related music information (lyrics, song title, duration, etc) all goes black. If I run Plex (or Spotify) directly on the LG TV via the LG Content store app, the screen saver with fireworks always comes on in about 2 minutes.
I've tried all the different methods to disable the screen saver function including turning off the Timers, Auto Power Off,  HDD Storage, etc. I also tried opening the hidden menus by pressing the mute button 5 times but that menu didn't have anything relevant.
Interesting is that the screen saver doesn't come on when using Spotify on a Fire TV stick or if I playback music through a USB device. But i don't use those methods often, mainly Plex to access my music server where I have about 500 CD's stored in ALAC format.
Has anyone found a way to disable the screen saver function? I know the logic for having it (to prevent OLED burn in) but I'm not leaving the same image on for more than the song duration (about 3-5 minutes).  It's annoying to check the screen for the a music title or see who is on only to find a black screen looking back. Thanks for any help.

Hi, I have a feature request for the sound out setting. I often connect my Bluetooth headphones to the TV. We don't use the internal speaker of the TV, we use the optical sound out setting whenever I don't use Bluetooth. It would make our lives a lot easier if the TV can remember the last sound out setting before connecting to Bluetooth and default back to this setting when the Bluetooth device gets disconnected. At the moment, each time I disconnect the headphones I have to go back into settings and change the sound out setting from internal speaker to optical again.
      Thanks and regards
      Hubert
