  1. You shouldn't insult others when you have no idea what you're talking about. Utahbob is 100% correct. The screensaver is the first line of defense put into the TV to prevent burn-in and image retention, which is a concern with OLED technology. If the screensaver comes on, it is literally because you are NOT watching the TV, but have whatever you are watching paused for over two minutes. Fun fact: when you hit 'play' or any button on the remote, the screensaver will instantly stop and whatever you are watching will resume.

  2. Flash is hardly ubiquitous anymore, and is actually being phased out pretty rapidly. Adobe announced last year that they will discontinue it entirely by 2020 and started winding down support for it almost immediately. Chrome had already stopped active support for Flash in 2016, and Steve Jobs famously said no iOS mobile device would ever support it. It's beyond a "late stage in its life" at this point. Flash is in its coffin, and the only reason it hasn't been buried yet is to give app and browser developers time to migrate to other formats like HTML5. the webOS browser actually does better than any other browser I've ever used on a console or Smart TV at delivering web content, including video. The best way by far to get brower content to your TV, though, is by casting from a mobile device, or from a Chrome browser through a Chromecast.

  3. No technical problem at all. Turned out to be user error, I wasn't expecting 4k shows to be hidden as well as they are! All sorted now thank you for your help

  4. Just a quick follow-up: my TV is one month out of the one year warranty and LG wanted $100+ for the replacement magic remote. I remembered that I was given a free 3 year extended warranty by the dealer. So I called the dealer, they gave me the phone number of the warranty company and said I was already registered under my home phone. I called, described the problem, and 5 days later, I had a new remote. They didn't have any of the 2016 square silver version -- the new one is black and curvy. I'm happy to report that it works perfectly, so the problem was definitely the remote. It synchronized with the TV the first time I used it to turn on the TV. The new remote doesn't feel as substantial and hefty like the 2016 silver model but it works, so I'm happy. Just glad it was the remote and not the receiver in the TV. There was also a firmware update after the remote arrived -- still no HBO GO. So I don't know what's up with that -- why it's available in Europe but not in the USA. Oh well, Roku works.

  5. I know this is an old thread but I thought I’d share how I fixed it. This was driving me nuts also but I got my “open input list?” pop up to go away by turning ON Simplink. The pop ups went away and some of my devices automatically turn on when I switch to them.

  6. It depends what you mean by fix. If you want Adobe Flash support, then no that is never going to happen. If you want to view a website that does not recognise the webOS browser or is incompatible for some other reason (excluding Flash) then it is probably going to be down to the owner of the website to fix it. The webOS browser is HTML5 compatible, yes it could do with some improvement but it is far from terrible. I do not know what the state of DRM support is in the browser, this would be an issue for instance with Spotify, but this could of course be circumvented by a proper app.

  7. Did you try to unplug the Ethernet cable?

  9. I do not believe that it is possible. Video output is not built in probably due to the DRM.

  10. @Chaoskcw - thank you so much for your "helpful" reply. The original post does not say whether he is watching live TV, streaming, or what. If you pause the screen, the screen saver is designed to come on. If it's coming on during a show that hasn't been paused, it's a problem with the TV and he needs to call LG for help. People do much more with their Smart TVs than just "watch TV". If you think my post was "of no use and very naive", all your post was designed to do was give me a hard time. Mine was to try to help the person with the problem, even if it didn't turn out to be the correct solution. So you tell me, which post was of more value on this forum? If you want to troll people on-line and make yourself feel better, you should try another forum.

  11. How do you measure the speed of different TV platforms? LG is fast enough. I have no complaints.

  12. This is a feature built into the TV to prevent image retention and burn-in. It is designed to come on after a "static" image is detected on the screen after about a minute. No way to disable it, nor should you want to. As to why it showed up all of a sudden, it may have been deployed in an update.

  13. Just like on iOS and Android it's not Apple and Google that make their HBO apps, its HBO that makes it and submits their app to the operating system's app catalog. LG webOS and other TV platforms shouldn't be expected to build an app for a network and their content, you don't expect Apple to build every app in their catalog...it's usually up to each individual developer to provide their app.
