How to disable update reminder?

chloe96

Question

Hi everyone, I'm Chloe and I just signed up. I'll cut straight to the chase. I'm currently using the LG TV (webos 3.0) of a friend while she's away for a few months and I constantly get prompted to update the firmware. She says she's never updated it as she doesn't care and everything was working fine anyway, and told me to just disregard it. So, I'm not gonna do it, but that reminder is doing my head in as it pops up every time I turn the TV back on.

Since I couldn't find anything in settings to turn it off, last month I blocked a bunch of addresses at router level and it did work for several weeks, as I wouldn't get the reminder any longer.

Here's what I blocked after sniffing out addresses that the TV checked out right before the reminder appeared:

Now, the message has started popping up again over the past few days. Yesterday I tried adding a bunch of other addresses, but no dice.

Do you have any suggestions about how to definitely kill that reminder once and for all? Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue and my conclusion is to not buy LG TVs anymore 🙂.

I deserve the right to not update my TV if I choose so. I’ve read that this update has caused issues for many users. Since there’s no info coming from LG, not even a changelog, I have no reasons to think I need this update.

There’s a setting to disable automatic updates, but it does not get rid of the notification. It’s extremely annoying.

A [language removed] TV does not need to update, it's just a way for them to spy on what you watch and what your habits are. My suggestion don't connect the TV to the internet at all and use a Roku, Chromecast or Firestick to do the smart functions, A TV should just be a display. [language removed] LG especially.

LG 42LB700V tv working but not corresponding to all the commands remote and intergrated except the volume and channel change. Also presents from time to time a yellow screen with a square sign at the center for two minutes. This comes as a crawl from left to right, or like an advert. and disappears the same way after two minutes, while the underlying sound goes on uninterrupted. Cant go into menu for setting controls. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I had my living room renovated and my LG TV was off for a few months. When I turned it back on after the reno and the upgrade prompt appeared. Sure, I said Yes.  THEN my LG TV got COVID and I had to call the TV doctor for repairs.  Due to the upgrade, the power board went out. The TV repair doctor said this happens often in LG TVs. I too will not upgrade again. TV Repair Doc told me to ignore. What can we do to stop the updates? Every time I turn the TV on I’m asked.

I've seen an older thread on this topic but it doesn't look like anyone found a solution to disabling the screen saver, so I'll try a new one.
On virtually all my LG TV's (I have three OLED's and two LCD), the screen saver interferes with my music app (like Plex, Spotify or Amazon Music). I mainly use Plex for playback of my music which is stored on a central server (NAS) and from the app loaded on a Fire TV stick or cube. After about 20-30 minutes, the album art and other related music information (lyrics, song title, duration, etc) all goes black. If I run Plex (or Spotify) directly on the LG TV via the LG Content store app, the screen saver with fireworks always comes on in about 2 minutes.
I've tried all the different methods to disable the screen saver function including turning off the Timers, Auto Power Off,  HDD Storage, etc. I also tried opening the hidden menus by pressing the mute button 5 times but that menu didn't have anything relevant.
Interesting is that the screen saver doesn't come on when using Spotify on a Fire TV stick or if I playback music through a USB device. But i don't use those methods often, mainly Plex to access my music server where I have about 500 CD's stored in ALAC format.
Has anyone found a way to disable the screen saver function? I know the logic for having it (to prevent OLED burn in) but I'm not leaving the same image on for more than the song duration (about 3-5 minutes).  It's annoying to check the screen for the a music title or see who is on only to find a black screen looking back. Thanks for any help.

We have two LG TV's that stopped connecting to our PLEX media server after the last update. TImes out saying "Checking connection speed to Raspberrypi" which the PLEX is on
Upgraded the Mesh Routers before trying anything, still only the PLEX app doesn't work
Our other TCL TV and Roku and TIVO still work with Plex, so this is only the LG TV's that can't connect anymore.
Another annoying error after the last update is that any Streaming app (Amazon, Netflix, and DIsney) now fall out of the app and go back to HDMI port 1 if we pause for 30 seconds.  Which we have always done for a Bathroom break or getting drinks.

Hi I recently updated the software to 5.30 version, and after that I noticed a weird problem with video streaming, in general issue with internet bandwidth. Usually my b/w is ~35 mbps so that is sufficient for 4k streaming on youtube or netflix. The issue is after running for 10-15 mins if I pause the video or go backward the network speed is thrashing badly. For example when I check internet connection on netflix it shows ~30-35 mbps, but whne that problem occurs and I check the speed again I see the speed is dropped to <1mbps. Same with youtube, it can't load 4k videos anymore as the speed is ~1mbps. I can realize the problem as the thumbnails load very slow with scrolling. This problem does not get away unless I restart the TV or disconnect from wifi AP and connect back. The router always works fine I mean when I observe the problem on tv I can run videos on mobile seamlessly and see a speed of ~40 mbps on the same router. The router is kept next to the TV so I don't think it is some issue with wifi distance etc. I don't know what to do. I tried resetting but it removed all my app but it was actually not a so called "factory reset". So software version remained same. To rule out hardware problem I want to revert to previous version of the software but apparently I can't downgrade the software. Is there any other approach to load some previous version firmware?
